Full description

As daylight fades and the night settles over Ylläs, meet your guide at one of our pickup points. After a short drive to the starting area, we step onto the skis and your night adventure begins. Your guide will introduce the equipment and basic technique, making sure you feel comfortable from the beginning. The pace is always adapted to the group, allowing everyone to find their rhythm in the dark.

From the very first movements, you’ll notice how different everything feels at night. The forest becomes quieter, the snow reflects the light, and the landscape takes on a softer, more atmospheric character. On this tour, the moon often lights the way, and the snow itself helps reveal the path ahead.

We continue through a mix of forest trails and open terrain before reaching a vast frozen lake. Crossing this open space under the night sky is one of the most memorable parts of the experience. You'll be surrounded by silence, with wide views in every direction and, on clear nights, the possibility of seeing the northern lights above.

Halfway through the tour, we reach a traditional wilderness kota. Here we stop to light a fire, warm up, and enjoy a break with hot drinks, snacks, and grilled sausages. It is a calm moment in the middle of the night, where time slows down and the atmosphere of Lapland becomes even more present. If conditions are right, this is also a good moment to look up and observe the northern lights.

We then continue back through gentle forest terrain, following prepared trails under the night sky. The rhythm becomes smooth and natural, and many guests start to feel more confident on the skis, finding a simple flow as we move through the landscape together.

Step by step, we return to the starting point through the silent winter forest. The night feels different now, not just something you pass through, but something you have experienced from within. A simple journey of movement, fire, silence, and Arctic night.

About Night Skiing

Night skiing is a unique way to experience winter in Lapland. Instead of skiing in daylight, you move through the landscape after dark, when the forests are quiet and the snow reflects the natural light from the sky. It creates a very different feeling: calmer, more atmospheric, and often surprisingly bright despite the night.

We use Nordic skis designed for both packed trails and softer snow. The pace is relaxed and adapted to the group, with time to learn, adjust your technique, and enjoy the surroundings along the way. It is accessible even if you have never tried night skiing before. Some skiing experience can help, but what matters most is curiosity and a sense of adventure.

Headlamps are provided for safety, but in most conditions they are not needed while skiing, as the snow reflects enough natural light to see clearly. They can always be used if visibility requires it or if you prefer a bit more light.

The tour takes place in the Ylläs region, within Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, an area known for its wide open landscapes, frozen lakes, and snow-covered forests. At night, everything feels different, quieter, more spacious, and more immersive. This is one of the most atmospheric ways to experience Lapland in winter.

FAQ

Yes, the tour is designed to be accessible even if you’ve never tried Nordic skiing before. We begin with a short introduction to the equipment and basic technique, and the pace is always adapted to the group. Nordic skiing is a skill-based activity: some people find their rhythm quickly, while others need a bit more time. Previous skiing experience can help, but it is not required. What matters most is being open to learning something new in an outdoor environment at night. If you are comfortable being active outdoors and open to a bit of adventure, you will be absolutely fine.

Staying warm and comfortable is essential. We recommend layering: a thermal base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a warm outer layer such as a ski jacket and ski pants or a down jacket. Warm gloves, a hat, and winter boots are essential as well. We provide Nordic skis, poles, and headlamps. Winter boots can also be rented on request.

Headlamps are provided for safety and can be used at any time if needed. However, in many conditions they are not essential, as the snow reflects light from the moon and sky, making it surprisingly easy to see while skiing. On clear nights, the natural light is often enough to move comfortably through the landscape.

Winter temperatures in Lapland usually range between -5°C and -25°C, but colder nights are possible. However, the air is dry, and because we stay active throughout the tour, most people remain comfortable with the right clothing. We also include a fire break in a wilderness kota, where we warm up with hot drinks and snacks. Your guide will always adapt the pace and stops to the conditions.

You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Simply contact us by email or phone, and your refund will be processed immediately. If weather conditions affect safety, we will give you a choice between rescheduling your tour or a full refund.

A rare night skiing experience in Ylläs that takes place in true wilderness settings, far from light pollution, in quiet forests, open terrain, and across a vast lake under the night sky. We move in small groups at a relaxed pace, with a highlight stop in a wilderness kota by the fire. On clear nights, there is also the possibility of seeing the northern lights. This is an authentic, atmospheric journey through Lapland at night, focused on silence, movement, and being fully in the landscape.

It was amazing. We were with a group of nine people, some a bit faster and some a bit more slow. But we enjoyed it a lot. Even through we didn’t see the northern lights, we had lots of fun! Thank you Kevin!

Bonne continuation Aristide&Manon
