Frequently Asked Questions
What should I pack?
Once you book a tour with us, we will provide you with an extensive list of what you should bring depending on which trip you join.
When it comes to how to layer, the idea is that the air between the layers keeps you warm and dry. The humidity is supposed to move through the layers away from the skin. This is how the body temperature stays even during the ski tour. You can adjust your temperature if you remove or add layers yourself easily.
1. CLOSEST TO SKIN -LAYER
The layer closest to skin moves the humidity away from the skin and keeps it dry and warm.
2. MID-LAYER
The mid-layer is supposed to help with warmth adjusting, when it is colder the mid-layer should be warmer.
3. TOP-LAYER
The top-layer protects against wind and snowfall.
4. EXTRA-LAYER
You will need an extra layer to put on for breaks and lunch.

Where do I fly to?
The best is to fly to Kittilä Airport. We provide transport from Kittilä airport to our starting point. You can also fly to Rovaniemi Airport, however you will need to arrange a transfer to Kittilä Airport or to our starting point, which often requires you to get on a 2 hour bus. We can help you organise transport from Rovaniemi Airport or any other location to our starting point, but it will be at your own expense.
Do I need a visa to visit Lapland?
You do not need a visa to visit Lapland if you are a citizen of a Nordic country, an EU Member State, or if you are from a visa-free country.

What is the accomodation like?
Except for overnight skiing trips, we rent spacious, charming wooden cabins for the week. Depending on the availability and the number of participants, we will either share one cabin all together or be split between two or more cabins so that there is enough space to accomodate for all participants of the tour and the guide. Each room will be shared between two persons (exceptions can be made on demand). Each cabin is equipped with a traditional Finnish sauna.
For overnight skiing trips, we sleep in wilderness huts provided by Metsähallitus, a state-owned enterprise that produces environmental services. The huts are relatively comfortable, with mattresses and pillows provided. There is no electricity nor running water (water is obtained by melting snow or from frozen lakes). There is a wood stove (fireplace) inside all huts to keep us warm.

What is the food like?
For lunch, we usually eat freeze-dried food when in the wilderness. Other options such as restaurants and cafes are sometimes available depending on the program of the day.
For breakfasts and dinners, the food will be homemade, and most of what we cook will be vegetarian. We try to use as many natural ingredients as possible and we make sure we give you a taste of local Finnish food. You will be well fed during the trips and we make sure we are providing enough calories to fuel you during our adventure. Please remember we are in the arctic so we do our best with the options that are available to us. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know beforehand.

How fit do I have to be?
There are different levels of fitness expected depending on which trip you decide to join. We rated our trips from easy to challenge in order to make sure everyone finds the kind of activity they are looking for.
1. EASY
For trips rated "Easy", we don't expect any level of fitness. These trips are designed so that everyone can join, from kids to the elderly. For these kind of trips, because we are based in the same cabin for the week, the schedule is quite flexible so we can easily adapt and make some days longer or shorter.
2. MODERATE
"Moderate" trips are made for people who want to experience adventurous tours but without a high level of fitness required. We still expect you to be in good health, have an average to good level of fitness and be happy to be outdoors for 5-6 hours in the day.
3. CHALLENGE
If you join a trip rated "Challenge", we expect you to be in good health and have a good level of fitness. For these kind of tours, we usually ski or hike for 10-18km per day, many days in a row.
If you have any doubts or concerns regarding your physical or mental ability to join a trip, feel free to contact us.

What should my skiing ability be?
Regardless of which trip you decide to join, there is no expectation regarding your ability to ski. Having previous experience of downhill or cross-country skiing is a plus but not a must.
The style of skiing we do here in Finland is very unique, not many have done it before. It’s a style of cross-country skiing which we will teach you the basics and you will improve as the trip goes on. You just need a good level of fitness and a will to try and learn a new skill.

What if I don't want to do an activity?
All the activities are optional, you are more than welcome to opt out of any of them and explore the surroundings yourself or enjoy a day in the cabin. As we have a base for the week there is no pressure to join us with activities.
