Ylläs Night Skiing
Under the Northern Lights
Explore the Arctic by Night and Chase the Aurora on Skis
Experience the silence and mystery of the Arctic night on skis. As daylight fades, you’ll glide through snow-covered forests and open fells in the heart of Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park. Away from light pollution, only the sound of your skis on the snow and the whisper of the wind accompany you.
Your guide will lead you at an easy pace through the wilderness, sharing stories about the northern sky and offering photography tips along the way. Midway through the journey, you’ll stop to rest by a small fire, enjoy warm drinks and snacks, and gaze at the vast Arctic sky above.
If the weather is kind, the Northern Lights may appear, illuminating the landscape in green and violet hues. Whether the aurora dances or not, the experience of skiing beneath the stars, surrounded by silence and snow, will stay with you long after the night ends.

About Northern Lights
Please note that this is not an aurora-hunting tour, as the main focus is on the nighttime ski touring experience in the Arctic wilderness of Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park. The possibility of observing the Northern Lights depends entirely on weather and solar activity conditions. When the skies are clear in the Pallas–Ylläs region, this area offers some of the best chances in Finland to witness the Aurora Borealis, far from city lights. If the weather is cloudy, the tour will still take place, allowing you to enjoy the unique atmosphere of skiing under the Arctic night sky, surrounded by silence and nature.
Skill Level & Physical Condition
This experience is suitable for participants with a basic to moderate fitness level and a sense of adventure. Previous ski touring experience is not strictly required, but participants should feel comfortable being outdoors and active for several hours in winter conditions.
Please dress appropriately for Arctic weather, with warm layered clothing, gloves, hat, and thick socks. If needed, NordX Adventures can provide winter overalls and boots if requested in advance and for an extra fee.
A certain amount of uphill and downhill skiing is involved. This tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, people with heart conditions, or those with limited mobility.
We do not recommend participation for children under 10 years old. Younger participants may join only upon prior approval from NordX Adventures before booking.
